In this session, Amy will break down the essential properties of light and demonstrate how they behave differently when using continuous LED lighting versus on‑camera flash for still life scenes and portraits.

With the right techniques, it can be shaped into soft, natural illumination that enhances your subject beautifully. In this session, Amy will demonstrate how to use off‑camera flash and strobe units effectively, showcasing a range of modifiers and accessories that help create professional‑quality images.

Amy Horn

Amy lives in Flagstaff, Arizona, and has enthusiastically shared her knowledge in software and photography-related fields at the secondary and post-secondary levels since 1995. With a master’s degree in education, she enjoys demonstrating photographic techniques in the classroom and the field.

In addition to teaching photography, her photo interests include macro, water, studio splash photography, landscape, wildlife, and travel, using both natural and artificial light. Let’s face it, if it's not a wedding, she’ll shoot it. For her, the joy in photography comes from finding the extraordinary image of the ordinary subject.

Amy is a retired Teaching Professor from Northern Arizona University. Her publications include Arizona Highways, Gold Prospectors Association, and her co-authored book, The Art of Macro Photography. When she is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family, running, and photographing the tiny landscapes around her.
